Fantasy Dress Competition
Over the years the Fantasy Fair's have had occasional aspects of costuming. At the very first in 1992, Mike and Helen came as Thunderbird characters, though Mark asked them for a 99 with an extra flake. At the second, Helen donned leathers, fishnets and mirror shades as a Terminatrix. Over the next few the local Viking society started to attend, as they still do, resplendent in their armour. For the last few Fairs, members of the local Star Trek club have come in uniform. As a response to these it was decided to host a Fantasy Dress competition, organised by Guild of Costumes member Sue Thurston.
Fantasy Fair 8 Fantasy Dress Competition
The competitors were Claire from the H.G.'s gaming club as a Cthulhu hunter; Robin as Fox Mulder; Darren, as Q in Glen Miller-mode; Martin as Star Fleet 1st Officer; and Jim Keeble as Star Fleet Captain.
In second place came Ian as an Emergency Medical Hologram, deserving the prize for devotion to character by shaving his head. The first place was between the two Klingons in their excellent own-made costumes. Although there was little to choose between them, the judges felt that Scott slightly had the edge over Frank.
