L. A. CONFIDENTIAL

Directed by Curtis Hanson.

What a brilliant film. At 2 1/2 hours, it fair whizzed by with plenty of plot weaving between the characters of the idealistic but ambitious Exley; the sleazy and media hungry Vincennes; and the short-fused but driven White. While each has different methods, strangely the aims are somewhat the same.

Unfortunately, due to it winning two well-deserved Oscars, the print I saw was 16mm rather than the Panavision splendour of the original cinema release. This meant that the microphone was in frame for about a quarter of the film, showing something about how the film was shot and then artificially top-and-tailed.

An excellently paced dark film with the occasional sprinkling of black humour. Oh, and watch to the very end of the credits for some extra snatches of film.
