NOWHERE
Directed by Gregg Arakie. USA. (18) 1997.
An alien invades L.A. and almost no-one notices. The only person who does, Dark Smith, (Keanu Reeves look-alike James Duval), with painted starscapes outside his bedroom window, doesn't particularly care. Too concerned with trying to get his bi-sexual girlfriend to be monogamous, he only gets worried when a boy he is attracted to is taken.
With a series of vicious vignettes,(Jaason Simons as a T.V. star turned rapist, silverlurex warring nihilists The Atari Gang, drugs, transgresive sex, T.V. evangelist inspired bizarre suicide, etc.), this film finished Araki's 'Teen apocalypse Trilogy' that started with 'Totally Fucked Up' and 'Doom Generation'.
At times wildly, darkly, funny, then scarily realistic, I can't reveal the Kafka-inspired finale. Just to say the incredible chutzpah of someone using it to end a movie, deserves a round of applause.
