WILDE
Directed by Brian Gilbert.
It's a costume drama, beautiful to look at, lovely clothes, lit well and has attractive sets and scenery. Stephen Fry as Oscar Wilde is so much Fry always that it could be said that he has played this role. His own acting ability comes out when Oscar is languishing in Reading Gaol. Personally, I thought that the best acting came from Tom Wilkinson playing the gross Queensburry, so different from his part in "The Full Monty".
What occurred to me while I watched this film, with its readings from the story 'The Selfish Giant', was that it reminded me of Salman Rushdie. His children's book (Haroun and the Sea of Stories) is dedicated to a son he can infrequently see.
