The founder of the Peterborough SF Club in 1976, Christine Wakelin, was an amateur artist, and we have always tried to encourage other artists. At the Club's Convention in 1988, 'Congregate ', the art show stimulated much praise for it's variety and quality.
This led on to the Club organising two exhibitions in local galleries. The first in 1989 was held at the Peterborough Art Centre. The second was part of the Fifteenth anniversary celebrations of 1991 and held at the David Holmes Gallery.
There have been other exhibitions at the City Museum's Art Gallery of interest to local fans. August 1990 was the clothing and textile exhibition 'Cross Threads '. January 1991 they had the excellent 'Magic Tour '. From December 1991 they hosted the patchy 'Past Futures '. In October 1995 the 'Into Orbit ' festival included an exhibition of cover-art by Fred Gambino and Keith Scarf. March 1996 saw the start of 'Sound and Fury ', a show about the art and imagery of Heavy Metal.
The Club has had several artistic guests over the years, many co-organised with the local specialists comic shop 'The House on the Borderland'. These have included John Bolton, Chuck Farley, Mike Jefferies, David Lloyd, Russell Morgan, Dave Sim and Gerhard and Bryan Talbot
