Over the years the Peterborough SF Club has tried to support and encourage locals to produce their own comics. Titles of these valiant attempts include 'Attom', (a zombie gore fest), 'English Dogs', (trippy-underground), 'Fenlock the Souper Spoon', (Whimsical parody), 'Psycho Ted', (violent parody), 'Too Close', (manga-style sf), and 'Moonlighting', (Fantasy Detective).
Together with the local specialist comic shop, 'The House on the Borderland', we have brought many comic artists and writers to the city. They include John Bolton, Jamie Delano, (who set part of a 'Hellblazer' story in Dogsthorpe in Peterborough), Neil Gaiman, David Lloyd, Peter Milligan, Dave Sim and Gerhard, Bryan Talbot and D.C. Comics editor, Art Young.
For fans of Japanese Manga and animation, the City also has PAniC, (Peterborough Anime Club) which has regular meetings.
COMICS UPDATE '99
The Club has had a few guests over the past couple of years who have worked in comics. Alex Stewart had written a number of "Twisted Tales" for "2000A.D." Paul Hatcher has self published his own works including "The World Stare-Out Championship Finals", which became an animation in the comedy series "Big Train".
The Club also continued to offer support to local comic producers by giving stalls at the Fantasy Fairs to Graham George and Paul Davies of "Moonlighting" last year; and this year to Roger Mason who wrote and drew "The Body Swap".
