The first guest of the Club to visit the City who was a fantasy author was Terry Pratchett at 'Congregate'. This was the convention held in 1988 at the Moat House Hotel. At this time he'd only had a handful of his DiscworldTM novels published, but was well on his way to the following he has today.
The next guest was Penelope Lucas who came to us to promote her prehistoric fantasy, "Shaman Moon", in 1991. This visit was also the prelude to that year's Fifteenth anniversary celebrations. For these Terry returned to Peterborough with Neil Gaiman to publicise their book "Good Omens".
Many other fantasy writers also came to the City during this period and they were Mike Jefferies, Graham Joyce, Robert Rankin, (who has included the local band 'The Sonic Energy Authority' in several of his books), Brian Stableford, Freda Warrington, Ian Watson and Jonathan Wylie.
From then onwards the Club has frequently invited fantasy authors to come and talk at it's discussion nights. These have included June Counsel, Colin Greenland, Keren Guilfoyle, Robert Irwin, Oliver Johnson, Garry Kilworth and Michael Scott Rohan.
Since the first Fantasy Fair in 1992, The Club has also sponsored visits by Genre authors to these events. Those guests have been Louise Cooper, Joe Dever, Maggie Furey, Andrew Harman, Rich Parsons and Tony Keaveny (who co-wrote the "Colin the Librarian" books).
Several writers with local connections dabbled to various extents in fantasy and these have been celebrated by the Club. Amongst these there are Lucy Boston, (whose original "Green Knowe" is in Godmanchester - not far from Peterborough), Lady Charlotte Guest, (who activly oversaw the translation of the Medieval Welsh folktales "The Mabinogion"), and Charles Kingsley, (whose "Hereward the Wake" is set locally).
The Club is affiliated to the British Fantasy Society in order to keep fully informed by developments in the genre.
