There's a tradition in the Peterborough SF Club that the very first meeting in May 1976 clashed with the start of a season of Star Trek. Since then it seems that an incarnation of Trek has always been shown on Wednesdays.

The first guest who had a T.V. connection was Daniel Dvorkin. He came to a meeting in 1990 and had co-written a 'Next Generation' novel with his father. Other guests to come to the Club include James Follett, (writer of the radio series 'Earthsearch' and episodes of 'Blake's 7'); Stephen Gallagher, (contributor to 'Dr. Who' and 'Bugs' as well as his own series 'Chimera'); Simon Ings, (the short films 'Red Rose' and 'Butchers hook' for Channel 4 and worked on the magazine show 'SF Scene' for Sci-Fi Channel); Jane Killick, (tie-in books for 'Judge Dredd' movie and 'Babylon 5'); Richard Christian Matheson, ('Incredible Hulk', 'Hill Street Blues', 'Knightrider', 'A-Team', and 'Quincey' amongst many shows); Grant Naylor,(which led to the Club being invited to attend the filming of an episode of 'Red Dwarf' as part of the studio audience); and Adrian Rigelsford, (various 'Dr. Who' books).

Other groups in Peterborough with an interest in T.V. include Nth Dimension, and a team made up of members of both groups became Telly Addicts Champions in 1994. Members of both Clubs have assisted in the running of various Media Conventions including Trek Dwarf and Cult T.V.

T.V. UPDATE '99

Over the past few years the Club has had a few guests with television connections. Simon Clark has presented pieces on regional news programmes about local ghost stories and the sites of famous murders. Mark Morris has written a couple of Doctor Who tie-in novels for BBC books. Alex Stewart had worked as a script-consultant on the series 'Invasion Earth' and a script-editor on the forth series of 'Bugs', which he had earlier written (under a pseudonym) a novelisation of a couple of episodes. Paul Hatcher had created the comic 'The World Stare- Out Championship Finals' that became a cartoon on the comedy series 'Big Train'.

Two local writers have produced T.V. related work. Allen Adams co-wrote the 'Babylon 5: Security Manual' and Alex Geairns worked on the translation of 'The Avengers Companion'.
